I was "clean", but not "serene"
While I made progress in "getting clean" from using alcohol and other drugs, I came to a point where it occurred to me that there must be something more than "just not using". Recovery for me had to give me something more meaningful.
I realized that the place where I struggled, and the thing that "drove" me, was and always had been the pain of isolation, loneliness, and confusion about my emotions.
I rarely felt like "I fit" - I even described myself as an alien who got put here by some weird accident. I knew "how to play the game" of social interaction - but I just didn't want to play.
Deep down inside myself, I felt frustrated. I still rode a crazy making emotional roller coaster without any confidence that I could ever make sense of my emotional experience and the world.
...has been to find, create, and then share the "how-to" of reliably creating true freedom, confidence and emotional strength. I looked at - and experimented with - many different forms of therapy, self-help, and tools for self-improvement. I knew that whatever I found had to be something that was more than "just my opinion".
The solution had to be proven
For me to present something "to the world" as a solution, it had to be proven in my life and the lives of other people to really work. It had to be easily “doable”, and not just fancy faddish theory or geek-speak. It had to work for almost anyone. Thus, it had to be based on solidly proven practices and principles.
I’ve taught major pieces of this system to graduate students, teachers, business leaders, office personnel, managers, nurses, yoga teachers, writers, actors, marketers, executives, politicians, every-day folks and people in recovery. I’ve used it in my clinical practice and in working with my own family members.
It’s not about a specific "population demographic" according to age, gender, economic situation, or lifestyle circumstance. The unifying principle that all of these people were searching for us the answer to this core question "How do I come out of emotional suffering, and live a more confident, fulfilling, and positively fulfilling life?"

The Fierce Self Advocacy Training and Coaching Course
Fierce Self Advocacy is about how to live emotionally clean, as your own fully and fiercely engaged best friend. How to use your addiction as your most reliable servant in claiming serenity for yourself – and empowering yourself as an agent of serenity in the lives of anyone you connect with.
"Emotional Balance" is one of those buzz words that sounds simple to say, yet I find the people who say it cannot tell me how they do it. With the skills and tools I've put in this course, you'll be well on your way to being able to claim your own emotional balance at will, using your serenity skills!
The Process Consists of learning and practicing:
- How to identify your emotional and thinking patterns as the voice of either Saboteurs, or the voice of your inner Sage - the wisdom, beauty and nature of your true self

- how to recognize your particular distortion patterns
- learning how to auto-correct those distortions with ease
- how to do emotional self-cleansing, strengthening, and lasting empowerment

I came into this course with a mixture of curiosity and desperation.
There's only so long that one can struggle alone before you have to find another way. The concepts and techniques Zander introduces here are deceptively simple, but profoundly valuable. The coaching calls feel like discussing things with a trusted friend. Zander is understanding and responsive, and willing to keep you on track when necessary. Zander has given me a new lease on life.
One short year ago, I was emotionally despairing, in constant pain; chaos reigned both internally and externally. I had such complex health and mental health issues that other professionals had given up. Though I had made many heroic efforts over fifteen years, I had finally arrived at the sad conclusion that nothing worthwhile in life was attainable—for me.
From our first meeting, Zander offered me validation and tools. He encouraged me to believe that there was a way out of the misery. He never gave up on me, even when I gave up on myself. This program is about developing the skills of knowing - and strengthening - your authentic, beautiful, and fully loving self!
His professional accomplishments and history includes:
- 22 years of studying and practicing Oriental Medicine, including being an Honours graduate in Acupuncture;
- Certified in Sports Medicine Acupuncture;
- Acupressure Practitioner and Senior Teacher;
- holds a Masters Degree in Medical Qigong Therapy.
He is also a Certified Professional Recovery Coach; Mental Fitness Coach; and Certified Coach in Conversational IntelligenceTM (the neuroscience of conversations).
He started working as an addictions counselor in 1990. His work developed in "Talk therapy" positions for most of the next 10 years. This included as a team member in a sex offender treatment program; running the counseling department of 7 funeral homes; crisis counselor; youth and family addictions counselor; and working with business owners, executives, and managers.

Before working in addictions, he was a circus teacher, juggler, fire eater, actor, and computer store manager. As a special events coordinator, he organized a variety of community events, concerts, and festivals in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver.
In his "spare time", he does recreation by playing mandolin and flute, going on canoe trips, and cartooning.
He has one daughter, 2 step-daughters (one is married with 2 daughters). He feels richly blessed with a family he loves!

What kind of exercises are involved?
There are several kinds of exercises in this course.
There are some sit-or-stand exercises. These are ways of working with your inner world deliberately. This includes some writing - without requiring you "to be a good writer".
Other non-physical exercises are ones where you'll observe things in your day to day, moment by moment life.
The physical exercises are gentle, slow, and easy for anyone to adapt to their personal situation - and do not require breaking a sweat or any kind of flexibility.
There is instruction and guidance on how to modify the exercises for yourself. This has rarely happened before, but it's possible... I've instructed a wheelchair bound paraplegic on using these kinds of exercises, and they did quite well - so I'm confident we can achieve a similar success for you.
As always - if you're having any problem with anything in the course, in any way - please reach out and ask for guidance from Zander.
How much time is required each day?
About a maximum of 1 hour of time one day per week to watch a video, and 15 minutes of daily practice (with the 15 minutes divided into shorter segments of 2-3 minutes each). There is one 30 minute coaching meeting on using the exercises each week.
Attending a laser session is another time block that you may want to make use of at any point.
Doing a daily practice is highly recommended so you can build your skills and mental fitness muscles. Sometimes people have disengaged from doing the Qigong exercises for a few days, and then come back to them and found how much better they do by keeping a daily practice.
It's up to you to experiment with how you want to use any part of this course.
Do I need special equipment?
This course is all "Online", using phone, email, and internet. It is recommended that you have a good internet connection to be able to view the videos.
The course and coaching program sounds great, and I want to join, but now isn't a good time. Will this be offered again, and at the same price?
Yes, the course will be offered again, but it won't necessarily be at the same price.
Future editions of this course will most likely be at a higher price.
What if I can't complete the course "on schedule"?
You can engage in the course at your convenience - your access never expires.
That being said... there is a power in working with a group, and moving with the group - getting support, sharing your experience of learning and creating change - and this is something that is impossible to do without participating daily.
If something should "come up" during the course that makes it impossible for you to continue at that time, then please contact Zander so we can make some arrangements that work well.
Does this conflict with any spiritual tradition or practice?
There is nothing religious about any of these practices. The training is about how to focus and refine your awareness of what you experience, and how to make choices that you decide are better for you.
This requires about the same amount of religious engagement as driving a tricycle, or taking a walk in nature.
How long do I have access to the course?
You have ongoing access to the course and any future updates to the core material.
Your access to Laser Sessions and email support is for the duration of when the course is "live" for your enrollment.
